Summer Fun

With the temperature rising into the 90's, I started to think about where I would really like to be today. Where you say?!?! Kickin back at the beach, now I could only do this stylishly so here are my beach necessities. We have the beach chair which is simply gangsta by design because it gives you that much need back support when you are sitting in the sand checking out the guys or gals on the beach (you just set it in the sand, like you do your beach umbrella), A purely indulgent (expensive as hell) beach towel from Missoni, but I love the design, and very few people do print design as well as Missoni, a soda cooler that also operates as a radio or mp3 outlet (not the best color, but it rocks for funciton) and of course you got your Laidback tote that comes out later this summer to stuff your sunblock, magazines, camera, and cellphone.

Inspired By Design

I stumbled on Innovation USA a few years ago at the ICFF show. The furniture was one of the key modes of inspiration for me designing home accessories that were urban, funky, edgy and sexy. I can see a "Her Cherry" or even a signature Laidback style turning one of these bad boys out. Look at the modular style, the clean lines, and casual fabric applications. Laidback X Innovation a perfect combination for a stylish city apartment.

Sound in a Box

Just when you thought you have seen every possible way to transport your beats here come the cats from Japan shooting sound straight organic style. Sound in a cardboard box. Muji is a Japanese company who prides themselves on being environmentally friendly, trendy, and price conscious all at the same time. Hook up your ipod and roll. These speakers collapse and fit in your bag like a folder or book. I can see somebody spraying or tagging their joint to give it that personal touch and for $42, why not?

The snooze is gone

I'd like to think that all of us have a built in clock that wakes us daily to the start of a new day, eager for another chance to learn something, challenge ourselves or design something new. But hey.. the reality is that for the most part we wake up to the harsh reality that it is time to do it all over again, from the obnoxious call of an alarm clock. Snooze.. another 5.. snooze, snooze.. another 5, but what happens when your clock goes off and then jets?.. This new "clocky" does just that. It was designed by a masters degree candidate in Boston that says "clocky will jump off of your nightstand and wheel around your room looking for a place to hide."
. . For some of us , it might be the answer to that morning jog that we committed to as part of our New Years Resolutions. Check out the clip of it in action.

Ol' Skool

Laidback took an old school staple and made it fresh with the "Ol' Play" pillow, but we are not alone. I stumbled on a great company called Vinylux that creates all of their products from vintage albums. My favorites are the bowl and the coasters. A few pillows, the bowl and the coasters will add great conversation pieces to your home, while giving it that retro stylish flair, besides how impressed will mama be that you are using coasters?
